International Day in Support of Victims of Torture - 26th June

Tomorrow as UN is going to observe a day to support the victims of torture do we ever give a thought before criticizing someone who might be victim of sheer torment? People from all walks of life are suffering  both physically and psychologically despite gender, age, color or religion.

Every day so many incidents go unreported due to the fear of the society, that what will people say? The so called moral police never look at the actual problems of the common man. For them the victim is always wrong because he/she was at the wrong place or had certain body language that made them face torturous consequences.

This society needs to differentiate between the victim and the problem creators. We cannot even imagine the life of a:

  • RAPE VICTIM who fears to even step out of her house both out of fear and rejection from the society. Don't they have the right to live a normal life?
  • AN OLD MAN/WOMAN who was thrown out of his/her own house because they were old or disabled. Have these people done everything to see a day like this?
  • LITTLE KIDS that are abused every day at their work place when they should have been studying at school. Isn't the youth the future of  the nation?
  • ACID ATTACK VICTIMS that have to live their entire lives with the marks and no hope of a good life. Is it the end of their dreams?
  • The GIRLS THAT ARE ABUSED FOR DOWRY even now or even BEATEN. Did her parents marry her off for this?
  • VICTIMS OF TERRORISM who have an ever lasting impression that there is no more good in this world. Is this world no longer safe for innocent people?
  • PEOPLE WHO ARE FORCED TO RELOCATE due to some policies or constructions or lack of safety. Don't we all like our safe home so why not them?
  • PEOPLE WHO ARE BEATEN/CAPTIVATED/KIDNAPPED have the mental scars for a lifetime.
  • DOCTORAL EXPERIMENTS are also a shocking form of torture where doctors do unsafe experiments costing the life. Weren't the doctors life givers?
  • EMPLOYEES FACING CRUELTY because they need money to survive. A person has to go so many things to earn bread?
  • DOMESTIC ABUSE VICTIMS whose hard earned money is taken forcibly taken by the drunk husband or dominant wife and abuse on refusal. Marriage was supposed to be holy union or torture ride?
  • PERSON LIVING AFTER AMPUTATION OF BODY PARTS in order to make kids beg or for any other reason. Weren't the kids messengers of GOD?
  • VICTIMS OF RACISM who live a life hiding to escape from criticizers notice. Does color decides the capability of a person?
  • WAR VICTIMS even whose unborn generations tend to suffer. Isn't the example of HIROSHIMA/NAGASAKI a lesson for lifetime?
  • The list is so long that it's actually depressing to even think about them.
It's not just the humans but even the animals that are facing agony by us. If we shudder at the fact of facing misery so we should not be a living nightmare for the animals who can't voice their concerns. We need to be sensitive to the needs of the others and not be engrossed in ourselves or our personal benefits.

Our biggest problem is that we stay quiet when we need to speak up. We don't help thinking that it's none of our business but it is indeed the business of every single human. If it is someone else today, it might be us or our kids tomorrow. If we don't want to help directly there are a lot of indirect ways to help a victim of torture. There are NGOs all over the world that comes forward to help promptly. There are counsellors and Rehabilitation centres to help the victims of emotional abuse.

Speak up, but firstly keep a check on yourself because we also might be the reason of someone's agony knowingly/unknowingly. Spread smiles as much as you can because there is enough grief in the world already.
